Visualization and Self Hypnosis

August 15th, 2007 by admin

Years ago a boyfriend (who later became a husband/ex husband) decided that the way for me to quit smoking was through hypnosis. He had seen an ad in the local paper and drove me crazy until I signed up.

One afternoon and $60 later, I finished the seminar. I quit smoking for about 2 weeks if I remember right, but I did learn a valuable technique that day. One that I recalled just today. The technique of hypnotizing oneself.

And I remember something else from that day. I remember that after the seminar, the instructor called me over. He said that he was impressed by how easily I had learned the technique and that by using it, I could have anything I wanted….including bigger breasts. Okay, so the guy was a leech but he was right about one thing.

He knew that using this technique would focus me enough for me to visualize my dreams. After all of these years, I had forgotten all about it. But today I was thinking about visualization. I admit to you that I have a hard time with visualization. Not because I’m not clear about what I want. Not because I can’t feel my visualizations. But because I am very very easily distracted.

I’m pretty darn sure that I have adult ADD. It is very difficult for me to focus on any one thing for a period of time. My mind starts to wander and I have to remind myself to refocus.

As I was thinking about visualizing today, I realized that this technique I learned so long ago could be just the thing I need to get focused and ready to indulge myself in visualization.

Here are the steps as I remember them.

Lie completely still on your back with your arms at your side. Imagine yourself lying on a beautiful beach or on a grassy mountain side.

The first thing you will need to do is completely relax yourself.

Begin by taking and releasing several breaths. Focus on your breathing and you will feel yourself start to relax. Continue by beginning at the top of your head and imagining all tension leaving your body. Imagine it actually leaving and rising above your head. Next, your neck and shoulders. Then your arms and fingers. Keep going until the last of the tension leaves your body through the tips of your toes.

Your body will be completely relaxed and focused enough to begin your visualization. You will be able to really see and feel the dreams you want to manifest. In such a state of relaxation, you will be amazed at how easily it happens. Remember to feel the joy of realizing your dreams and then, when you finish, to express gratitude for the things you have felt.

Also, remember to follow the steps in yesterday’s post if you are still unable to really feel your visualizations. And enjoy yourself! This is where the law of attraction gets fun!
